1 Know your limits
VC is a competitive and demanding field. You have to deal with multiple tasks, deadlines, and stakeholders. You have to make difficult decisions, negotiate terms, and handle rejections. You have to constantly learn, adapt, and improve. All these can take a toll on your physical and mental health. Therefore, it is important to know your limits and set boundaries. Learn to say no when you have too much on your plate. Delegate or outsource tasks that are not your core competencies. Take breaks and vacations to recharge and relax. Seek help when you need it, whether from your colleagues, mentors, or professionals.

Take on only as much as you can do justice too. We tend to say yes too often - No is a potent tool in your skillset, since saying no is quite difficult. Once you say yes, give it 100%. Better to have 5 projects that you can evaluate in-depth, than 50 that you can only skim the surface of. And incomplete information is the starting point of stressful negotiations.

Top VCs have a great ability to think before they speak. This is a skill that can be cultivated. This mindfulness also leads to less emotional turmoil on the VC's part. And one side effect is the gravitas that it lends to the VC.

VC is a passion-driven and mission-oriented career. You have to be passionate about the startups you invest in, the problems you solve, and the impact you create. You have to be committed to your goals, values, and vision. However, you also have to balance your work with other aspects of your life. You have to maintain your relationships, hobbies, and interests. You have to take care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. Therefore, it is essential to balance your life and find your harmony. Schedule time for yourself, your family, and your friends. Pursue activities that bring you joy, fulfillment, and meaning. Many VCs participate in extreme sports. While that might be fueling the adrenaline, regular exercise is quite beneficial. 3 days a week of a cardio workout -- running, biking, or swimming -- will do wonders to reduce the cortisol levels associated with stress. If included toward weights, weightlifting or even powerlifting, can be a great way for the VC to achieve balance.

Network, network, network. The role of a viable network cannot be overemphasised. Engage with thought leaders at networking events to gain a broader perspective of the landscape. It also helps provide leverage and accessibility which may otherwise not be readily available.
