Dimitro
I have noticed that native speakers use "guys" even when they address a group that contains females. Is this ok?

Hi Dimitro!
This is a good question. To my understanding, it is ok to use the “guys” informally or when you are with a group of people you know, whether male or female. For example, I use the word “guys” with my friends and family. However, when I am with a group of people I don’t know or I am in a professional setting, I use “everyone” or “everybody” to be more formal.
Hope this helps.

Agreed. "Hey guys" is quite informal, and absolutely gender neutral. If I had a lot of self confidence, I'd use it to address any group, no matter the audience. But I understand what Sarai is saying - some may wish to use something a little more formal, like "everyone".

Did you ever hear of the movie Guys and dolls 1955? Guys used to refer to males. People could use the slang term "youse" to refer to a group of people

"Guy" is used to refer to a male person and "you guys" is used in a casual, gender-neutral way. This means that men or women can address other men or women by saying"you guys".It is of course informal.

Absolutely not. Calling women or trans person “guys” without a thought is genuinely misogynistic and should be avoided. It is foul to teach non-English speaking cultures that this is ok. It is appropriated misogyny. Women are guys until a heterosexual man wants sex. Then they are women.

Ali is absolutely correct, and Charlotte, you are categorically wrong. Mirium dictionary states it. 'guy ~ noun. —used in plural to refer to the members of a group regardless of sex. "saw her and the rest of the guys"'.You'll need to amend your answer.

Hi guys, if you are reading this then you know that I am talking to you when I say 'guys' and that it is very inclusive among friends and colleagues in an informal setting.
I would say you could also use 'guys' in more formal situations as well, but every situation is different, so you have to be careful.
I hope all you guys agree!

Addressing a group of people as “guys” isn't gender inclusive. True, the word guys has a gender-neutral sense in Dictionary.com of “persons of either sex; people.” But the most common and prominent meaning of the word is “a man or boy; fellow.” ... We don't have many options for second-person plural pronouns.

The word in question is the plural version, and has nothing to do with the singular use. You said it yourself, even the dictionary confirms that "guys" is gender-neutral, and it always will be.
