Pathfinder 2e Character Sheet: Builder and Roadmap - Roll20 Blog (2024)

Hello, Adventurers! We started the year off with a Community Preview release of our Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster Character Sheet within Roll20 Characters. We were intentional about sharing our in-development sheet early to ensure that we design with and for our Pathfinder community!

We asked for your feedback to shape where the Roll20 sheet goes next, and received a strong response. We’ve had the opportunity to collect, review, and analyze your feedback, and we’re proud to share our roadmap:

Pathfinder 2e Character Sheet: Builder and Roadmap - Roll20 Blog (1)

On January 10, we released the first public iteration of the Remaster Character Sheet built on our new strategic Beacon infrastructure. Here, we unveiled a more intuitive sheet structure and focused on the Encounters tab to showcase the sheet’s potential for automation (like when bonuses and penalties are automatically applied across the sheet and dice rolls), and customization (where we allow users to modify/override any stat while maintaining insight into the base value).

Wow this sheet keeps impressing me every time look at it! This sheet is just so clean and organised..I am so glad I came back to Roll20. All your teams are knocking it out of the park!

Since this is only a preview version, we know there’s much more to be done! As a result, we’ve been holding off on releasing the new sheet for play in our virtual tabletop until we’ve had a chance to add the level of automation and customization that you’re used to with our current sheet, including an all-new character builder.

So, while continuing to build out the core mechanics of the sheet, we also focused the last 6 weeks on community outreach and collecting and analyzing community feedback. Let’s take a peek!

Your Feedback Moves Us Forward

Over six weeks, thousands of adventurers checked out the Community Preview Sheet. We received feedback through user demos, social media, forums, our awesome partners, and the feedback form.

Over 70% of you agreed that the sheet is heading in the right direction, and the majority of the specific feedback we received from the community on “what we want to see next” are features we already anticipated – we’re so excited to know we were on the same page! The one major learning from feedback thus far is that Compendium Drag & Drop for things like items, spells, and feats is highly anticipated. So as a result, you’ll see that we’ve adjusted our roadmap to prioritize that capability earlier.

First thing I noticed when trying out the PF2e Remaster sheet was the excellent job at not just duplicating the original PF2e character sheet. looks great. It’s all organized… and it is also a very intuitive process. I like it a lot.

After poring over hundreds pieces of feedback, we’ve identified the top themes you’re most excited about for the Pathfinder Second Edition Remaster play experience:

35% of responses requested assistance with character generation.

We’re building out Compendium Drag & Drop capabilities and a Character Builder this year to help you with character creation and progression.

20% of comments pointed to improving handling of additional core game mechanics like spells, custom skills/lore and traits.

We’ve already taken steps to address some top requests in this category following the Community Preview launch. For example, we’ve started to automate the bonus and penalty strike effects of core traits like Agile, Finesse, and Deadly.

When using a strike with the Finesse trait, “bonus to hit” will automatically update based on the higher of two modifiers – Dexterity or Strength. We have more enhancements underway for traits handling!

The team is now focused on improving the sheet’s core mechanics as requested by the community. In the next month, we’re aiming to:

  • Build out the Spells tab to allow users to add spells based on their casting method, automatically roll for damage, and prepare their spells for the day
  • Add automation for other core Traits like Propulsive, and add references to trait definitions within the sheet for all other traits
  • Build out the Skills tab to enable entries and management of Custom Skills and Lore

15% of you alluded to a need for more customization options and custom effects.

We’ve just introduced custom effects handling. This allows you to simulate custom conditions, feats, and inventory items, or create your own set of bonuses and penalties as a single effect, applying or removing them in one step. We’ll be doing more in this space to accommodate custom roll queries.

New UI is amazing, everything looks much easier to use and definitely a massive improvement from a usability standpoint. Being able to customize your proficiencies, weapon groups, etc. makes using the new UI so much better.

We’ll Get There, Thanks to You!

We received a strong response from our community, and can’t thank you enough for your continued support! Your feedback will continue to shape the future features and priorities, ensuring the new Character Sheet evolves alongside your needs. Our team is excited and committed to building upon your feedback to create an even more enjoyable and accessible Pathfinder experience, so please keep it coming!
