Financial value, as I use the term in this book, is the monetary value of a financial asset: a belief or claim about what it is worth. Financial assets (also known as securities or financial instruments) are effectively contracts that entitle the holder of the asset to some form of future payment.

Value is the monetary, material, or assessed worth of an asset, good, or service. "Value" is attached to a myriad of concepts including shareholder value, the value of a firm, fair value, and market value. The process of calculating and assigning a value to a company or an asset is called valuation.

“Commercial Value”, also known as market value, is the price that a product can fetch in the marketplace. This value is determined by various factors, including supply and demand dynamics, production costs, market competition, and consumer perception.

Some examples of money values include freedom, security, legacy, genericity, or experiences, just to name a few. For example, if your goal is to build a large savings and investment portfolio to live a worry-free retired life, you may value freedom and security.

The Net Book Value (NBV) of your business is calculated by deducting the costs of your business liabilities, including debt and outstanding credit, from the total value of your tangible and intangible assets.

There is some overlap in meaning between the terms: financial, meaning (obviously) 'involving financial matters', is a subset of fiscal, which has the additional meaning of 'relating to government revenue and taxes'. Financial policy is related to money and only money.

Monetary policy refers to central bank activities that are directed toward influencing the quantity of money and credit in an economy. By contrast, fiscal policy refers to the government's decisions about taxation and spending. The two sets of policies affect the economy via different mechanisms.

Take your total assets and subtract your total liabilities. This approach makes it easy to trace to the valuation because it's coming directly from your accounting/record keeping. However, because it works like a snapshot of current value it may not take into consideration future revenue or earnings.

A Common Definition of Value

Value in business markets is the worth in monetary terms of the technical, economic, service, and social benefits a customer company receives in exchange for the price it pays for a market offering. We will elaborate on some aspects of this definition.

Economic value is the measurement of the benefit derived from a good or service to an individual or a company. Economic value can also be the maximum price or amount of money that someone is willing to pay for a good or service.

Financing Value means the total amount equal to the sum of the aggregate face value of any securities provided to the Company, cash contributed, advertising credits, other assets contributed and/or any similar contributions, payments or provisions made to the Company by Rhino and its affiliates.

Net worth is the dollar amount you would have if all your assets were sold today for their current market value and all your debts were paid in full.
