How much is the express bus from Staten Island to Manhattan? ›

Express bus: $7 (Reduced Fare, during off-peak hours only, will remain at $3.25) Paratransit and Access-A-Ride: $2.90.

Tap and go in every borough

You don't have to sign up or download an app to use OMNY; simply use your contactless credit or debit card, smartphone, wearable device, or OMNY card to tap and go. OMNY currently supports full-fare and Reduced-Fare pay-per-ride options.

All routes are operated by New York City Transit. All routes run during rush hours in the peak direction. In addition, the SIM1C, SIM3C, SIM4C and SIM33C provide off-peak weekday and weekend service, and the SIM1C provides overnight service.

Up to three children under 44 inches tall ride for free when they're with a fare-paying adult. You pay the fare at turnstiles before you board the train. You don't have to do anything as you exit.

If you're 65 or over, you can sign up in person and receive your new Reduced-Fare MetroCard the same day. If you have a disability, you can receive in-person, individualized assistance from a station agent and get a temporary Reduced-Fare MetroCard to use while your application is processed.

About reduced fares

The reduced fare for subways and local, limited, and Select Bus Service buses is $1.45 (half the $2.90 base fare) at all times of the day for eligible customers. On express bus trips, the reduced fare is $3.50 (half the $7 base fare).

The new double decker bus, manufactured by Alexander Dennis Inc., provides increased passenger capacity while maintaining the comfortable, smooth ride of an express bus. The bus provides approximately 42 percent more seating capacity, with 81 to 83 reclining seats, as opposed to 57 seats on standard express buses.

You can use public transportation to avoid the hefty cab prices. Take the JFK's AirTrain, their public transit line to connect with New York City's subways, buses, and rails. Public transportation is the most affordable way to get to downtown, and may be the fastest with traffic.

Express buses generally travel between Manhattan and one of the other four boroughs, although there are a few exceptions, I believe. Local buses make stops about every 2–4 blocks along a route. Some routes have limited stop buses, also, making stops at major cross streets.

An express bus makes few stops along the route so that it can get to its destination more quickly. It may also have limited access to some stops. A local example: the airport express bus, from downtown to the airport, will pick up any passenger waiting at a designated stop, but will not drop passengers there.

Express bus services cost 60 cents more than regular bus and MRT rides for adults. The fares are charged by distance and range from $1.59 to $2.86 if paid for using a travel card.
